I have a foxtail that seems to get persistent windburn or what I take to be windburn. Basically, the palm seems quite healthy and is growing well, but the leaf tips are almost always brown. It is in a spot that gets the prevailing breeze. The palm has about 5 feet of trunk, has been in the ground several years, in full sun for about 60-75% of the day and gets plenty of water. Short of moving it, is there anything I can do to ameliorate the problem?

Thanks

Hi JimR,

Do you have a picture of whats being damaged? The picture can help others to help you out first off is you climate humid or dry?

if your dry you can spray water on the leaf when its windy that can help some also you may want to get anti-transpirants which will help spray on the leafs which will protect the leaf.

Its an Acrylic Polymers like Anti-stress2000 Hope this helps some let us know what you find out as well

OK. I will put up a picture soon. The climate here is very humid, coastal. The wind can certainly be drying though

Some photographs of what I presume to be windburn.

Hi Jim,

How often do you fertilize the foxtail? it maybe fertilizer burn when you water how often. I had a foxtail that done that it was from the fertilizer I forgot to water after

wards there are so many things that can cause that not enough humidity built up of salts in the ground. Just to name a few I hope you find what causing this and you can

share your success story

Matthew--

Thanks for the suggestions. During the warm season (i.e., not Winter) I fertilize irregularly, but on average about once a month. The Foxtail gets about 12 minutes of watering 5 times a week. I will admit to having a bit of a "heavy hand" with the fertilizer, but none of my palms have complained before. The palm is planted in mostly sand. We have lots of humidity, so I do not think that is an issue. I will omit this palm from my next fertilizer round to see if that helps the problem. Thanks again.

Jim
