Dave, Excellent pics!!! That is one of my favorite places in San Diego. I was there just last week and saw not one but two snakes  . One was about three and a half ft. long and the other was three ft. It was all good though cuz they were gopher snakes. It's cool to see a wildlife habitat like that in the middle of the city. I work in Del Mar and sometimes I'll just go up there for lunch. It is one of the few worth while places you can go that is never very crowded.

Urban Rainforest Palms,Cycads and Exotics. Were in San Diego Ca. about 5 miles from the beach on Tecolote canyon. It seems to be an ideal growing climate with moderate temps. and very little frost. Vacation Rental in Leilani Estates, big island Hi PM me if interested in staying there.

Very nice photos Dave! Love the lotus and frog pix, naturally all the palm pix. At the moment my brain is focused on Sabal, so thanks for those! I need to revisit Quail, thanks for the reminder.

Great shots Dave, thanks for the tour.

So what is the cupped leafed Dypsis at the bottom of post 8? Dypsis nodifera? Awesome orange crownshaft.

I think the plant in post 17 is Caeselpinnia pulchurrima (murderd the spelling). Notice how dry the dirt is around them. Great plants!

I love the pics and thanks for showing but I thought these type of threads belonged in the Travel Log area and this one is about the third one to plonk here in the main section in recent times, I'd say that the Travel log section is out now and all general showing posts go here unless the moderator team is going to intervene, I would like a decison so I know myself next time.

The ratpack and extended ratpack are on tour soon folks and FM 'Newcal' is going to tell you all about that soon, watch this space...

thank you very much for listening.

Happy Gardening

I used to have that particular variety of passionflower (called vitifolia) in my yard. Along with several other species. Most all of them died in Jan '07. I really liked the vitifolia too since it doesn't look like the classic passionflower. Oh well! Usually they would die to the ground and then quickly grow again in spring, but they didn't even come back. One species of passionflower that remains alive (and was even growing rapidly in the winter during the freeze) is called caerulea. The flowers are really nice, but the foliage is just kind of "eh". But for a cold winter area passionflower, it's really nice because it doesn't die back much and you don't have to wait for the wall or whatever it is growing on to fill back up again each year (though they grow so fast it only take like a month anyway).
