One of our Oz gardening shows recently had two different segments on palms. I'ts great to see a gardening show which usually focuses on more traditional gardening produce these segments on our favourite plant. This show is hosted by an ex-pom and usually features a lot of Tasmanian stuff, but does present segments from all over Australia.

The show now makes these broadcasts available via their website...Gardening Australia Videos

For those of you who would like to view the videos, click on the above link and watch episode 16 and 17. You can stream them or download and watch at your leisure.

Episode 16 has a good segment on Palms in Adelaide, such as Jubaea and Brahea. Some of the pronunciation is a bit strange, but it makes for interesting viewing.

Episode 17 has a segment showcasing three tropical gardens in Darwin, and various tropical palm species growing there.

I always miss Gardening Australia... as I could never remember when they are on. I enjoy Leonie's section as she is from Darwin and she has a lot of knowledge especially about gardening in the Top End. Very nice and down to earth lady, I really enjoyed meeting her in person.

Regards, Ari :)

Just watched the Darwin gardens episode, pretty good thanks Daz, but as usual, way too short on the tropical or sub tropical gardening segments, that's why I stopped watching this show, it's just way to biased towards temperate climate gardening and mainly shows Victoria and Tassie stuff.

Wal, that seems to be the case here in States as well....there seems to be a bias against anything tropical. Our public broadcasting system has a gardening show that is the same way....and there are never any palms....one more spruce or wispy hemlock and i knew i would've trashed the tube, so i turned it off.
