I bought seedlings a while back but I have been seeing large balled out specimens with fruits being offered in recent plant shows here and occassionally in the weekend market. They are available on and off so its like playing roulette really-- plus they usually sell like hotcakes- specially with their fruits attached - really eye catching.

Several weeks back there were good sized specimens available but I just had a small car with me and it was impossible to fit a tree in. This week I brought tha van and crossed my fingers that there would be some available again -- I was lucky today.

2 batches of fruits attached. I've seen some with 4 clusters before.

Different stages of ripeness too.

The orange ones in the previous photo are more ripe I guess. I tried to twist them off but they wouldn't yank off yet so I guess that they are not yet ready.

Like I said in a previous post- the seeds don't hang down from the trunk but rather they ascend from it. Pretty neat i think. :D

How tall are those, Gene? They don't look too big.... I wonder how old do they have to be before fruiting.... mine is about my height at the moment (which is not very high :mrlooney: )

Cool-looking tree. Is this strictly tropical, or does it stand a chance in SoFla?

SoCal and SoFla; zone varies by location.

I like this palm alot. Mine in the garden is now holding tiny green seeds. I still can't understand why more seed of this palm is not offered. I would certainly buy some if I could.

Ari - the palm in the pictures with 2 clusters of seeds is probably 14 feet in total height. The clear trunk ( before the crownshaft starts) is about 5 feet tall.

The smaller one with just 2 fruits is probably justs starting to fruit and I estimate about a meter of clear trunk when it started to fruit. In the really good specimens I saw before there was a cluster on every "ring" so I guess this baby sets seed everytime it produces as leaf. But it probably needs to be very well established to do this.

Its the middle of summer here and these palms showed signs of stress since I planted them yesterday afternoon. The sun was probably blazing hot this morning because the older leaves drooped and shows some signs of sun burn.

Great pictures of a lovely palm. I have one on order from Floribunda. I wanted one for so long (along with a dwarf A. catechu) and anxiously await the little one's arrival. It will eventually go into my back yard shade garden. I, too, wish it were more readily available, esp. seeds.

I wonder how long it takes from seed to maturity on this particular palm? Maybe 7-8 years? Anyone have a guess? Someday we will have seed here in SoFla! :winkie: If I don't kill them all first! :innocent:
