Wish us luck, we're running the 5 Points of Life Half Marathon tomorrow bright and early. Race starts at 7am which is a good thing as the forecast high for tomorrow is almost 80F.

I am hoping to run the 13.2 miles in under 2 hours, somewhere between 1:45-1:59, LOL. We'll see. The last time I did this race my time was 2 hours 8 minutes.

Should be a nice day for it, all the rain, hail and other severe weather blew through last night (we got almost 2.5 inches of rain!) and there is a 0% chance for precip tomorrow.

Hubby will be running the half as a training run for Boston in April, but since he's so much quicker than me I'll be dogging him to the finish.

Gina,

Good luck! I would say I'll be thinking of you, but by the time I wake up around 5:30 a.m., it'll already be 10:30 in FL! :)  I'm heading out for a long (training) speedwalk myself tomorrow morning (19 miles), in preparation for my next race - the Big Island International Marathon 3 weeks from now (March 16).

Just keep in mind - get to the halfway point feeling good, and then you can pick up the pace, pass lots of people and have a strong finish! :)

Yah that's my usual strategy!! I get a water at the 6.5 mile water station and eat a powergel (either Vanilla, Chocolate or Cafe Latte!...110 cals of pure energy) and that gives me the staying power for the 2nd 6.5 miles!

I'll let you know how I do, LOL

It was a great day today for the race.

My husband ran it in 1 hr 35 min at a 7:20 pace and won 2nd in his age group

I did a 1 hr 53 min race for an 8:40 pace and placed 7th in my age group

That's the fastest time I have ever raced at, I was jazzed.

Wait, Gina would probably want a little more metal in her victory song.  :P

BS its funny you should mention that, LOL. My husband can't run with music. He says he has to "concentrate" and music messes him up. (???) I can't run WITHOUT music. And it has to be a specific kind of music....speed/thrash metal (really good ones are In Flames, Children of Bodom, SLayer, Lamb of God, AVenged Sevenfold, etc) or old punk in the school of Circle Jerks, Black Flag, Fugazi, etc work best. It has to have a really fast beat, and then I follow the drum line. I know if i can keep up with the drum line of any song on my iPod, I am going at LEAST a 9 minute pace.

I looked back through the results (male and female combimed) and my place was 67th out of I believe 510 total runners. I couldn't believe I placed that near the top.

That is an outstanding performance by both you and your husband. An average of under 9 minute miles for 13.2 miles is truly high calibre stuff.Unfortunately, this cannot be fully comprehended unless you have done your time!

I was at that race too! I guess I must have missed you guys. I was lazy and just cheered on one of my friends and ran a separate 5K that morning... I was kind of surprised how the gun sounded before most of the people were at the starting point.

I'm always up for learning new things!

LOL Kyle we were surprised too. We had just walked up from the parking lot across the street at the Orthopedic SPorts center and started at the very front. I didn't even have time to set my stopwatch. SOrry we missed you, I thought you'd be sleeping in!
