I'm thinking of ordering some Cyrtostachys renda from the following two seed sources. Has anybody ever ordered from these companies?

www.rareseedsource.com/

http://www.banana-tree.com/

I already have 1000 C Renda seeds in my germination chambers, but I thought that it couldn't hurt to have another batch in germination. I thought that I would try another seed source to increase my chances of having a successful germination %.  I live in an area where C Renda do very well, so hopefully in 10 years or so, I'll have a few hundred on my property.

Any opinions on the seed sources above?

my first ever order of washintonia hybri filibusta seeds came from rareseedsource

it was a pleasent experience and the palms had great germination rates, however my noob seedling skills killed most of them off.

I think there is a thread in the forsale/trade section about good seed companies.

I ordered several seeds from banana-tree.com and for giving you an example I got zamia furfuracea, 100 wich probably 30 or 40 where floaters.. :(  some ravenea rivularis: the seeds looked old and none have germinated so far..

the only good thing about them are prices in some seeds..

Doug,

I ordered about a dozen palm species two years ago from Rareseedsource.  Not a single germination.  Nothing exotic or hard to germinate either.  Almost all of the species I ordered from RPS or Ortanique around the same time had average to excellent germinations.

Thanks for your experiences.. Yeah, I've been waiting for Orantique to offer C Renda again.. Two weeks ago I received 1000 Renda seeds from Rare Palm Seeds, I spent a few days soaking and peeling each one by hand with a pair of tweezers. Whew, what a project. Hopefully they will do well, it will be trial and error for me with this whole process. I've never grown a palm tree by seed yet.

I'll wait for Orantique to offer them again before my next batch.

Doug:

Cyrtostachys renda seeds are famous for their short viability. I've bought several times from the main dealers and never had a sprout...but you know, I'm located at a 2/3 weeks mailing distance from Europe/USA. My first success in germinating these seeds was just recently, with fresh seeds sent from a friend from Queensland , Australia, who collected them from his own fruiting palm and immediatly sent me (in moist medium) with prioritary mail.

I read you are located in Hawaii...so why don't you try buying these seeds from local growers anyway? I believe Bo Göran may have a few fruiting rendas in his property near Hilo...Well, maybe he could be willing to sell you some of these seeds too...
