palmgrover & pohonkelapa in Coronado

bob told me a few weeks ago there were some cool palms at the hotel del coronado & finally this past weekend we got a chance to go check it out.get ready for sun,sand,&

of course PALMS!

a few preliminaries.first is bob with his c.gigas.

secondly i've been driving by these ravenea that are about halfway between my place & bob's for years & finally remembered to get some pix!

bob reminded me that when we first noticed these 7 or 8

years ago the were just peeking over the fence.

Hmm.  The Gas Light district was a lot of gas, fer sure.

coronado is a mish-mash of different architectural styles,

just like the rest of socal.

we finally find a place to park near a traffic circle & small park about 1 block from the beach.

i spotted this amazingly tall butia.it was taller than the 2 story building it stands next to!

bob spotted this TALL brahea sp.

there are some very old palms around here!

i started to get suspicious that this carrier was "shadowing" us...

the homes right on the shore are the biggest & most ostentatious.

I never get tired of the view from that trip over the bridge.  You picked a perfect day for the drive, so much blue sky and blue water!  And I take it you didn't see me waving back at you?

bob said those mounds in the sand were giant letters & i almost believed him till he said they were put there by alien life forms that only he can see.

The shots of the R. rivularis were great, what a beautiful palm and pretty big too. I was in Balboa Park snapping away on Sunday

and need to get some of them posted. Terrific day wasn't it?
