Mike and I have been overwhelmed with family and work related activities lately so garden time (and Palm Talk) time have been squeezed out of our lives but we’ve promised to several people to post pictures of our new Licuala garden so here is a brief look at it until we have time to do a better post. A Bit of History: We’ve bought a few Licuala here and there over time but recently came down with a case of Licuala Fever and decided we wanted to dedicate part of our garden just to Licuala so we cleared an area that has a diameter of roughly 25’ and is located on a gentle slope. The garden is located among some earlier palm plantings and can be seen from several surrounding trails as well as our (future) pond. We spent a week clearing the area and had to remove several pre-palm plantings including crouton, hibiscus etc. which wasn’t bad because we ended up with ready-made holes. The stakes with the orange flags on them remind us of where the holes are located. We have a few more Licuala waiting to get their roots in the ground and will post again with the identities of each of the palms. Lee Before clearing Removing previous plantings

Sometimes it rains here. Recently we've had several inches. Being from dry California, I really enjoy watching it come down, thought I would share. Lemurophoenix halleuxii in a soft Hawaiian rain Chambeyronia group in a downpour

Philippe, Ah yes, I remember it well. My grandmother took me there for the grand opening. Perhaps you remember me. I was wearing a blue diaper and riding in the pram pushed by my nanny who was wearing the bright yellow bow in her hair. The palms were all seedlings of course and we had to keep dodging the elephant ‘droppings’ but the hotel itself hasn’t changed a bit since then. Thanks for bringing up all the great old memories. From the balcony of the first floor, you can see part of A. pinnata leafs sticking up nearly to the end of the first floor and the lowest part of the roof...Phoenikakias keeps them company A great garden with real gems in it Had a great time with Konstantinos and we exchanged palms as well,he gave me a big Reinhardtia paiewonskiana,a species I have been searching for a few more individuals to plant except the very young one I have in the ground! It's just prior to trunking for good and shooting up so,first few rings of young trunk visible with stilts tearing through it,so it should hopefully have a little time to acclimate to the ground and get much fatter before trunking for good. It's getting ground planted this weekend or the next, the sooner the better for it! Here it is now at my "nursery": The fence stands 2m tall for scale! It's a beastie! Thanks a lot Konstantinos,I will provide it with a great spot in the ground in Pyrgos,a wet, shady spot and hope it does well long term and grows fat and huge!

Now, this is what I call real weeds, and go figure out how they will look like ('trees' that is) by late May. A today picture with IPS member Kostas for scale...

Thanks everyone for your sweet comments. I can add a few more pix later for those who asked. I have a rather large supply of photos of my garden. Right now I'm off to shop for more plants.
