Palms in Roma St Gardens part 2

Featured Replies

After a quick visit to these gardens last week http://www.palmtalk....showtopic=33869, I returned today with the Green Twins (FM Newcal and his brother Andy) to have a more relaxed look at these gardens...

Just up the road was this old Phoenix sylvestris

Very nice. I can see how the drought has influenced many of the public plantings in Brisbane with the explosion in succulent and semi-succulent popularity

Great pics Daryl, glad you guys have finally got to see these gardens well, how do you rate them ? Not bad for an inner city garden hey, and not even a botanical garden as such.

They take on different plants in the changing seasons as well in respect to the floral sections.

I was close by as it turns out, visiting sick family member at the PA unfortunately.

Happy Gardening

Cheers,

Wal

Wow, what a fantastic place. Quite a commitment to the public. Nice.

Wal, I rate the gardens highly..I'd give them 8 out of 10 for variety and imagination. Very well maintained too, although needed some mulch in places. As for palms, what can I say...you just don't see some of those palms growing anywhere...

Sorry to hear about your relo, hope they get better soon.

I really like the Dypsis amboza in post #3. Is this the same as Dypsis procera?

El Oasis - beach garden, distinct wet/dry season ,year round 20-38c

Las Heliconias - jungle garden ,800m elevation,150+ inches rainfall, year round 15-28c

  • Author

Hi Scott, I'm not sure of the true identity...D.amboza is not a valid name but commonly used for many years here. The plants offered for sale here as D.procera are different again to this palm.

Daryl

Great shots again Daryl. Anyone have a guess on what that Dypsis sp might be? I got one that looks like that, though not as mature from Floribunda labeled betafaka.

San Marcos CA

Great shots Daryl. Thanks for posting. I've been there many times and I highly recommend a visit or 2. There is a Bentinckia there as well that is doing well and beginning to flower. I'll try and dig up a pic.
