Darold Petty, Dan Sekella and others have spent many years supporting the Northern Ca. Palm Societys collection in Lakeside Park. Its a huge job keeping it up, all on a voluntary basis. I applaud them for the work they and others have done. It really is the crown jewel of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Anyone that would like to help, we have been meeting on the third Saturday of each month.

Check out some of the rare palms. A small grove of Juania australis

The Parajubaea cocoides were planted in the 1980's and may be the largest in California. The tops are obscured by other plants, but there is a plan to showcase them more effectively. I'll post pictures later as we get it figured out.

Ceroxylons, Yes. I took this picture last summer of the C. quinduiense seedling. Note the clipboard at its base. Hope Im alive when it trunks!

Could this tree someday tower 200 feet over the city of Oakland?

I have been to the work day a couple of times.

There is a lot going on there in a very small area. Well worth the trip if you are in the area.

One of the interesting things about this garden is that it's partly sheltered by a nice grove of trident maples. The leaf duff you see under those Juanias is maple leaves shed profusely every fall-winter. It works nicely, adding light in winter and protecting plants in summer from hot, dry sun.
