New Palms, one name I'm unsure of...

Recommended Posts

I was blessed to meet a very generous person today when I responded to a Craigslist ad that I replied to in order to obtain a very nice size J altifrons and grabbed a C macrosperma and a replacement Areca catechu alba, I was then gifted 2 others, one is Licuala Cabalionii the other I can not find listed on Palmpedia but the tag says something like Areca rappavia var. Vietnam - anyone know this by another name (1st photo)?  In total I spent an embarrassing paltry $120 for these 5 palms.

Nice haul. I'm jealous, I've paid that much in shipping alone before :(

That Areca might be Areca riparia and if the variety, Areca riparia var. 'Vietnam Lowland' or just var. 'Vietnam'.

I only thought of that as I have seen A. riparia misspelled before and it resembles the species. It also looks like plants seen here grown as Pinanga fractiflexa, which many still believe is actually an Areca species in disguise. Your plant is perfect and may flower soon, giving a better clue as to it's identity.

Incredible score nonetheless, that Johannesteijsmannia altifrons is a steal at $120, with the other plants practically free.

That Joey is a $300 plant. Any chance these actually belonged to someone other than the person who gave you this great deal?

No, he is quite legit and grew these out for a long time.  He sometimes sells plants to Floribunda.

Holy cow Brad, instant landscape. I agree, that joey is off the charts. It takes years to get them to that size. Good on you brutha.
