This is a really concise overview of the bridge.  The term 'golden gate' refers to the geography of the strait, not the bridge.  Imagine, ..this was designed with caffeine and slide rules, no computers !  I have driven over this bridge hundreds of times and it lifts my spirits each trip.  All of the steel and many pre-fabricated parts came from Bethlehem, PA. 

  There is a very similar bridge in LIsbon, Portugal, but it lacks the Art Deco styling and does not have pedestrian access.

I was stationed in the Presidio, right at the south foot of the Golden Gate, before  being shipped to Vietnam.. What a beautiful area.. I wish I had had a decent camera at the time.. The fog rolling through the the stanchions was breathtaking... Thanks for posting....
