Will Simpson 329 Report post Posted April 5 I planted this HC Palmetto on June 2 , 2020 so it probably grew about 5-6 months before cooler weather slowed it down . It was already rooting out well and had lots of frond growth when I bought it . Just got it home : It was incredibly heavy with all that rootball . I think it had been at the nursery for at least a couple of years because of all that root growth and it even flowered last summer . It was said to be from northern Florida stock , so hopefully it's a little hardier than those from more southern ecotypes . I bought it in Wilmington , NC . Here it is today , and this will be its start of the 2021 season picture for my future reference . I might post another picture of it in November after I have watered and fertilized the hell out it : Thanks for looking . Will 5
Brad Mondel 755 Report post Posted April 5 I just planted two of these also and I noticed new root growth and the fronds are already growing quickly. They said they harvested them from Gainesville Florida.
Collectorpalms 850 Report post Posted April 5 Can palmetto still be shipped to Texas, or are they banned for agriculture issues?
Will Simpson 329 Report post Posted April 5 I haven't heard anything about shipping being a problem .

Freshly cut HC Palmettos have almost no roots or frond growth , but if they are heeled in well at the nursery after while they will start growing out . Mine too just started growing great right after I planted it . Edited April 5 by Will Simpson
NC_Palm_Enthusiast 220 Report post Posted April 6 Looks great! What fertilizer do you use?
Will Simpson 329 Report post Posted April 6 Thanks I've been using a tropical and palm fertilizer by Site One . Site One used to be John Deere Landscapes , and before that it was called Lesco . I just called them and they delivered 2 50lb bags to the local store here in Winston-Salem from a store in Wilmington were they had some stored . I went to the store and picked them up . Will Thanks for the tip! Which NPK ratio do you use? I'm relatively new to growing palms so I'm still trying learn from those with more experience.
