Deep South Severe Weather Outbreak?

Recommended Posts

Looking at analogs for this Wednesday, yeah it looks like it could be pretty bad. Everywhere from NW Florida to extreme eastern Texas, and north to southern Indiana and southern Illinois is already in a Level 2 Slight Risk. Slight Risks dont happen often in the Day 4-8 outlook time period, and we could be looking at a Level 3 in the Day 4-8 when it updates tomorrow night if trends continue, which is very rare. I only remember seeing a Level 3 risk in the Day 4-8 outlook only a few times in the past few years.

The start (Day 3):

Then Day 4, the rare 30% risk in D4-8:

Then continuing into Day 5:

Wednesday looks pretty nasty, Storm Prediction Center mentioning the potential that there are multiple areas where tornado threat may max out, same for wind threat too.

Lots of damage already done across parts of Alabama and Mississippi. Unfortunately, that was just the first round. Round two is currently developing and is going severe as you read this, this line could contain supercell structures capable of producing tornadoes, some strong. The environment is still growing more favorable for dangerous severe storms capable of producing large hail, tornadoes, and damaging straight line wind gusts potentially as high as 80 mph.

Here's an update:

There was 83 tornado warnings issued in total today among multiple different states, with Alabama holding the largest number. Some towns were under back-to-back tornado warnings, that were confirmed tornadoes. Unfortunately, damage was done, but the fortunate side to this is that there were no injuries or fatalities recorded!! Storms are still ongoing, but the severe threat appears to be waning substantially.
Tomorrow the threat shifts into the Carolinas, where a Moderate Risk is in place.

Believe it or not your weather made the news here in Western Australia, I've just watched footage of strong winds and tornadoes on the afternoon news here in Perth. It looks pretty rough, hope there's not too much damage and, more importantly, hope no one is hurt.

Unfortunately - this Thursday seems to be a repeat of last Wednesday, if not even worse. Fingers crossed.

Unfortunately yes, several tornadoes tracked across the state of Alabama yesterday, hitting populated areas this time unlike the last outbreak. 6 people are dead and im not sure the total injuries. 5 died in Ohatchee, AL and 1 person died overnight in a destrcutive tornado in Newnan, Georgia. The myth that "tornadoes dont go over mountains or hills" was completely busted yesterday, as one of the tornadoes went directly over a tall hill just southeast of Birmingham.
