New and Replacement Fall Plantings

Recommended Posts

PalmatierMeg

My gardens have been in place for over 10 years so many of my palms have grown to maturity. However, I still lose individual plants over the course of a year, which give me opportunities to sort through palms I've grown from seeds to fill gaps in the yard. Since fall began I have planted the following plants, including one Areca catechu semi dwarf and five Areca catechu dwarfs that demanded to go into the ground.

Areca catechu semi dwarf - replaced a fading Livistona nitida

Plans on protecting those catechu in the winter? I have had 2 full sized one in the ground since 2011 with no issues, 09/10 killed the one I had in the ground at that time. No protection on any of them.

Perhaps if lows fall below 40F. They've been living in pots outdoors on the south side of the house for 5 years without any protection as they were too large and heavy to move. We could barely move them to their planting locations. Last winter took down to 37F with no protection. They all have some protective canopy and wind breaks from the house and other plantings. I finally decided they would be better off in the ground. I have an 8-9' tall Hydriastele dransfieldii going into its 3rd winter planted in my jungle. No protection either.

Your guagara is doing great. Mine is ailing, sadly. That R. Julietae looks great too. Great shady plantings there--nice little understory.

Dypsis lutescens seed collected the past couple weeks (and still harvesting).  Available in small quantities or thousands. Also collected fresh seed for 10 other types of palms the past week or two.
These seeds are sun dried before shipping.
Dypsis lutescens is an easy to grow palm that can be grown in pots and kept indoor in cooler climates. Great for novice palm growers.
My website will combine shipping costs if you find other seeds there you might want.   When using Ebay, if there's other palm seeds I'm selling you'd like just purchase whatever you want & pay,  then after I ship the items I send a refund for the combined shipping savings.

      Hi all!

I’m in search of any footage of anything cycad related for a documentary over cycads. Would love to have anything you might have, especially of any plants in situ, their beauty, anatomy, etc.
All locations and identifying attributes will be censored for the plants’ protection. Give me a quick DM if you’re able to help out. Let me know if you have any questions and I’d be happy to answer.

      Thanks in advance!

      Hello All,
I really appreciate all the help I've been given on this forum. I'd also would like to know if my Dioon Spinulosa is ready to flush? The fur make me think it is. Plus should I repot my guy or wait until the flush? I'm thinking a nice 10g because its in its 7g nursery pot I bought it in. Thank You!

At local Walmart this morning and they had these little beauties for sale and couldn’t pass up buying four of them much to my wife’s dismay. Going to separate one of them into individual plants and give that a try like I’ve done with the parlor palm. Any Midwest members might want to check your local Walmart for these as I thought they were pretty expensive for what you get.At local Walmart this morning and they had these little beauties for sale and couldn’t pass up buying four of them much to my wife’s dismay.
