Canary Leaf Opening, Pt. 2

Recommended Posts

ahosey01

A few weeks ago, I started a thread called “Canary Leaf Opening.”  For 4-6 weeks after planting (from a 24” box), my new CIDP just kind of froze without growing or decaying.  However, beginning a couple weeks ago, this thing has now gone on a growth rampage.

It has fully opened two new fronds and half-opened a third in right around two weeks.  There are also three spears inside the crown that I’m sure won’t take long to open, either.

Just how fast do these things grow?!

Once established and trunking it grows fairly...at least around here. I think it will go fine there in AZ. They like sun, full hot sun.

This thing is much bigger a year later and is now flowering:

I've never seen a pure CIDP flower that young before.  I'll bet it is a hybrid - maybe with roebelenii.

More than the age of the palm, I thought it peculiar that it is pushing a flower in (essentially) early September.  To my knowledge, CIDP should flower late feb - early march around here.

True, I've seen roebelenii flower multiple times at different times of year and they also flower early.
