What's the best medium for potted Butia Capita

Hi,

I live in zone 7a (Olney MD) and have a butia capitata that is outgrowing its 5 gallon pot.  (it's about 3 feet tall with a bit of a trunk)  I have no real hope of planting it in the ground permanently so I want to move it to a bigger pot where it will live outdoors most of the year and spend 4 winter months either in a garage or basement (under grow lights).  What is a good size pot to move it to and what is the best medium n which to plant it?  Potting mix? a mixture of sand and potting soil? something else?  Thanks

Mine do great in MG Garden soil with added osmocote 14-14-14. I put sand on top but it has to be well drained. No play sand

Los Angeles, CA and Myrtle Beach, SC.
