Any updates on the comparison shots?

Last winter both of my two R. glauca isalo succumbed to the conditions in my unheated plant room (4-8 °C @ 80 - 100 % relative air humidity) but my last remaining R. glauca andringitra survived. That is why I presume that the andringitra form is indeed more cool/cold hardy than the isalo form.

Almost the end of the outdoor growing season here in 7b:

@Tyrone How is your future R. glauca andringitra forest doing?

These are the 4 I germinated from seed in 2017.  They’ve grown well in the shadehouse but seem to attract flat brown scale. I blitzed these for scale about a month ago and the scale is now dead. Time to plant out these 4.

This area is a raised mound originally made by the previous owner but it was surrounded in concrete panels and brush screens. It also had some plastic tubs put in as fishponds. It became infested with kikuyu grass and was a haunt for tiger snakes. In time I pulled all the panels out and the tubs and today I filled the holes with 2m3 of topsoil and coarse river sand. Perfect for Ravenea glauca.

The roots on these were quite thick.

In the ground.

The rest of the mound area will be redone with weeds killed, more sand brought in and cannas moved. I’m going to put in some Encephalartos cycads, move some Ravenea xerophila to this area and plant the rest of my Ravenea glaucas.

Nice placement.   Will be rooting for continuing success with your R Glauca Andringitra.  I am also interested as to how large your Ravenea xerophila are.  They have a reputation for being a challenging transplant.  Start a post on your transplant too with photos.

Thanks Tracy. They are not big. So maybe not so challenging. They haven’t done well where they are and are basically going backwards, so if I don’t move them they’ll just slowly decline. My plan is to put them into a warmer brighter area in a very free draining mix.

Wow, I've got one. Obviously yours are much better than mine, and I need to learn more.

I germinated several, all which slowly declined and died inside my greenhouse.   Finally, I mailed the survivors to a better climate!

I’m sorry you had that experience with them Darold.

My aim is to get my bunch seeding in a few years. Fresh seed may improve results.

I planted another one, but this was from my 2019 batch.

We had an old chicken that died, so out of respect I planted one on her grave to commemorate her.

This "real" Ravenea glauca from Andringitra is on my wish list. I have a few Isalo Raveneas growing in the garden. They are not competely hardy here and defoliated twice.  BTW Is there already a species name for this Ravenea from Isalo? Thanks

Carambeí, 2nd tableland of the State Paraná , south Brazil.

Alt:1030m. Native palms: Queen, B. eriospatha, B. microspadix, Allagoptera leucocalyx , A.campestris, Geonoma schottiana, Trithrinax acanthocoma. Subtr. climate, some frosty nights. No dry season. August: driest month. Rain:1700mm

I am seeking for cold hardy palms!

Hopefully some seed becomes available again and you can try them as Im certain they will do well for you. My suggestion is to buy at least 100 seed or more as the viability is short. That way you may get a handful to try. I’m hoping that in time my little colony of 19 will start to produce fresh seed but I’m at least a few years away yet. However they seem to grow fast when happy.
I haven’t heard if the Isalo form has been renamed yet.

Could this be the first root to grow out of the bottom of the pot?

If that is the case, this root must have travelled quite a distance.
