Shoowow 104 Report post Posted June 10, 2016 Roystonea is on the ground. Also, Rafael and I took a drive around town today and saw a 6 m tall roystonea on a private garden, looking great. So, they exist on the island.
JEFF IN MODESTO 409 Report post Posted June 10, 2016 Thanks for sharing! There are many emigrants from the Azores in my city and surrounding towns. Lots of dairies owned by 1st and 2nd generation Azorean/ Portuguese Americans. Since Azores weather appears to be a cross between California and south Florida, It will be interesting to here more marginal climate palm growing stories. Keep on sharing! dalmatiansoap 461 Report post Posted September 4, 2019 To bump this thread with one question, considering our future trip to Azores, what's the "must see" for palm addict on Sao Miguel? Any secret gardens, botanical parks,...?
Shoowow 104 Report post Posted September 4, 2019 Hello there, there are three must-see parks on the island with great collections of palms and other exotic trees: - In the capital city of Ponta Delgada visit the free-entrance city park, Jardim Antonio Borges for large Queen + King palms, an impressive Jubea, CIDPs, P. Reclinatas, P. Dactilifera and many others. - Also in the city the Jardim Jose do Canto, which features a forest of King palms, Kentias, etc. - But please don't miss Parque Terra Nostra in the Furnas valley, with virtual jungles of Kings, Jubeas and tons of others. The Mata Jose do Canto along the shores of the Furnas lake also features impressive palms.
