Could be worse though, there were widespread low to mid 30's all throughout inland hillsborough county this morning....I bet there were a lot of frost surprises in Riverview, Brandon, Plant City and Lutz this morning.... Actually found a station in the riverview area that recorded 32.3F this morning...That is cold for any month here my friends....

Well, we saw 37 night before last and 34 last night, but no real frost and no issues even with tropical plants or my seedlings which were unprotected. According to our local weather folks, this is just about a full month ahead of schedule. Got some 80s for highs coming back next week, buth then similar weather will return.

Something tells me lots of low temp records are being broken this morning!

They sure got broken this morning! Official low, per NOAA radio this morning, was, "42 degrees. This is 22 degrees below the average of 64 degrees, and breaks the all-time record of 44, set in 1962."

Guys, this is bad news. The decade of the 60s was worse than the 80's, with one year reporting a wintertime low of 17F.

I checked a weather station (on wx-underground) and it reported 42 just a bit south of here. Disston Heights reported 48, St. Pete/Clearwater Airport reported 52, and at my place it was 50. And Albert Whitted, the temp was 56. Wide variation across the bay area.

Larry, how was it at your place?

edited to add: I would've been skeptical of the station that reported 42 except that this was the official low reported on NOAA radio. Brrr.

Not too bad.....I honestly dont worry about low temps anymore....takes too much fun out of it! Plus, we all really do tend to not give out palnts/palms enough credit for handling cold!

In any case, 46.4F for the low this AM (10/30), 44.2F on 10/29, and 49.5F on 10/28.

Ive also got a much better weather station this year than in years past. My old one was getting flaky (the wind readings were inconsistent and the rain gauge croaked), so earlier this year I splurged on a Davis Vantago pro unit which has a fan on the sensor and a radiation shield so I know I now get ultra accurate readings that are directly comparable with the official NWS stations. I also log to Weatherunderound in real time now as well with uploads every 2-3 seconds. Technology is pretty cool sometimes!

official low reported by NOAA morning of 10/30 was 33 degrees

My meter bottomed out at 39.6 this morning however

I can confirm frost and freeze yesterday morning as I saw damaged canna and wild elephant ears along side the road on the outskirts of town.

After some warm to hot weather, it's gone all cool again in the SW of Oz. Went down to 10C last night and max's in the low twenties. Today will be 22C, but back up to 27C on Sunday. The odd shower or two keeping humidity up, but overall mild cool weather. Even still, palms are leaping ahead with growth, like my coconut.

Best regards

Tyrone

33f this morning with the first frost of the season on my glass table - I don't really see it anywhere else, but it's dry & calm winds... I shouldn't complain though - we're "supposed" to get frost at this time of year. I thought it might've waited till mid november though. My windmill is still growing like crazy in the ground.... yeahy!!

Well. It turns out there was no 'visible' damage from this last little cold spell. I am surprised since my thermometer went all the way down to 39F with very visible frost on roof tops. It looks like a lot of low 80sF and low 60sF for the forseable future. good. maybe the water temps in the gulf and bay can recover a bit before the next big cold front.

We were 1C above average for Oct with an average of 12.1C to 24C, and slightly below average rainfall of 38mm vs 45mm avg. Now Nov is here the weather should start to rapidly warm as the NW starts to bake, and in a month or two cyclones start to form in the Tropical Indian ocean.

Best regards

Tyrone

NO, None, Zip, Zilch recordable rain for the month of October....this is the middle of Spring supposedly!

Its been warm generally (until yesterday - bloody cold front with scary winds) and breezy, so evaporation is high in our sandy (not)soil.

Its meant to rain a bit later this week - doing a dance.....
