We have had 3 days of below freezing weather. Last night and this morning was the worst with all plants in the ground having leaves coated in ice. Before the freeze I took in as many pots as possible and covered my smaller palms. We will see what happens in spring but I am expecting some ugliness after this freeze.

Best of luck with everything. I'll bet you have a few survival surprises. I know I did from Jan 2010.

Beautiful in a painful sort of way..

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

I bet that ice frond you are holding in photo 1 has considerable cold hardiness. Maybe not so great in the 100F heat in a few months, but probably a great choice for palm fanciers north of the arctic circle. :mrlooney:

Ouch, but keep us apprized.

Here in California, they spray water on the oranges on the eve of a freeze, to limit the damage.

Ouch!

I have been through most of the bitter cold intervals in Texas, but I've never seen ice like that so far south. That makes all of our zone pushing very minor...you have not one but maybe two zones out of the norm. We can all hope it will be ok for you.

Port Aransas recorded 28F, so I'm guessing North Padre bottomed out around 30F. It was a nice Zone 10b before that too...

The bummer is that Brownsville topped out at 30F for one entire day last week. That has to be a record.

We were actually in the high 20's in the 2 previous days before the ice. :(
