Love the Lennon T shirt but disappointed Col wasn't wearing an Aloha special.

Spoke to to Colin the other night, sounds like you folks looked after him well. I'd love to get over there one day myself, I've got a few cousins here and there, in non palm states (I think) like Minnesota, New York, Nebraska.

Happy Gardening

Cheers,

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is the palm species depicted in the first photograph?

Thanks,

Hi Paul:

I really missed visiting Jungle music last january during my rushing trip through California, as I was planning to. Did you take any more pictures there? I always enjoy and learn a lot from Phil's posts...wish he could show us more detailed pictures from his nursery too...

The same curiosity applies for Dean's and Colin's gardens...

D. lanceolata it is, and Paul is also right, it is a Ceroxylon sp.

I think Scott was asking about the banana behind Matt. It's one of those common dwarf kind with the big yellow flower. Sorry, don't know the name.

Hi! Yeah.... the Banana! Wow....  that's a real nice one.

But it looks like there are so many beautiful palms, I feel funny asking about a non palm plant.

Colin, lets see some of those great shots!!! :)

For the record, the palm in front of me, by the bananas, is labled as Ravenea sp. 'anikolovely'.  It's one of my favorites.  It really seems to reach skyward and has a cool twist to the fronds.

Here's an interesting one from Dean's....I think it's Dypsis cerecea.  There's only one huge leaf coming right out of the ground.

Please pardon the dumb question, but are those archontos behind Colin & Matt in pic #6?

Awesome Ravenea there, Dave. I'd love to know what kind.

Scott

Scott, the trunks directly behind us in pic6 is Dypsis onilahensis.  This is a real good medium sized clumper for southern california.  A much better grow here than Dypsis lutescens.  It is slower though.  I think that palm must be 10-15 years old or so.  I think the Ravenea you're refering to is actually a Ceroxylon.  I think it's Ceroxylon alpinum but Dean would have to confirm.

Thanks Matt, I love finding palms to research and think about maybe getting.

I really need to get to Jungle Music because all I find here are Roebs, Rivularis, and the usual stuff - I like them, but it's time to branch out! :)

Colin, You are more than welcome for the visit. I'm glad it worked out for you guys. Only sorry I couldn't be there to meet you two. Maybe in Hawaii or Down Under one of these days. Looks like you had quite an adventure. I haven't seen a pic of you yet without a big smile on your face.

Matt, That Ceroxylon is a C. sp. 'big silver' from Jungle Music about 15 years ago. The C. alpinum is across the driveway near the R. monticola.

Hi Dean,

If you are ever visiting down under it would be our pleasure to squire you about. The hospitality in California was fanatastic, Everyone has a great sense of humour and where all round good blokes.

If we visit Hawaii we will look you up

I'd also like to add my bit here...

Many thanks to all of you who took the time to be so hospitable and show Colin around, as well as help him out with the plants, and also those who were so generous with their plants. I just got a list from Colin and it is pretty impressive! All of you are the greatest, and I sure hope I can reciprocate one day too.

regards,

Daryl.

You mentioned that the banana has a yellow flower, could it be Musella lasiocarpa the Golden Lotus Banana.

Great pics, can't wait to see the other 990 or so.
