I planted this Nephrosperma vanhoutteanum last summer. It seems very slow to me. It only opened it's spear leaf than nothing. Perhaps it was devoting it's energies to developing its root system. This winter it did nothing. It has sent a new spear leaf, maybe it's growth rate will accelerate with time. I am pleased as to the condition of the palm going through it's first winter unprotected. This Seychelles palm seems to be doing quite well in South Florida. It actually faired better than some of my Areca species.

Nephries added to (or detracted from) the Death Camp's already evil reputation.

JC - as usual, I am impressed at the array of palms you have managed to cultivate in your garden!

Got one from Claude too but it spends three solid winter months in the greenhouse.

No one cares about your current yard temperature 🙃

Ron, I like this thread; there is no shame in trying to grow palms, no matter the outcome! If you truly love palms like I do, you read this thread and hope for it to make it! I was hoping as I read for a great update on what is such a unique looking palm. But instantly, after reading the palm didn't make it, I thought of the palms I have tried that didn't make it (Ptychococcus lepidotus, Licuala sallehana, Bentinckia condapanna to name a few!) and I thought about how fun it was to be learning about all these new palms and actually having some that I had, otherwise, never seen before... It's still really fun to grow palms!
