I lost all of mine early on......They never came out of the first winter.

It would be great to hear of any success with these hybrids in Southern California.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear this and quite surprised to be honest. Oh well, I guess we'll enjoy these here in Florida.

Beautiful specimen @Scott Cohen Have you had challenges growing this in South FL? Do you take any special precautions?

Not at all, thus far they have been very easy to grow for me. They like lots of water and good soil/fertilizer yet i have seen them grown in "abusive" conditions and doing just fine.

I've wondered this too. Supposedly they took temps in the low 30's during 2010 without damage. The absolute low temps in your area are very similar to areas in S. Florida that they grow just fine, but the winters are quite a bit cooler on average, so some things act differently. I think it's worth a shot if you can get ahold of one.

For us the normal "lowest low" per year lately has been about 35-36f. But the rare winter can get freezing. Mature fruiting coconuts grow easily here, however some died in the unusually cool winter of 2009-2010.
