Indonesian executions

Hi all,

This is not meant to be political by any means and I hope the thread is allowed to stay. It does however delve into some deep topics and there may be varying opinions?

There are 2 Australians who are about to be killed in Indoneasia as they were apparently the " ringleaders " of a plot to smuggle drugs out of Indo and into Australia. They have been on death row for around 10 years and by all reports have transformed themselves and many many other prisoners in this particular facility. Since their arrest and incarceration (by all reports) they have done nothing but good things and are helping to rehabilitate others in the prison.

Despite their well known rehabilitation the new indoneasian president has decided that now is the time to shoot all drug smugglers on death row with zero exceptions...... I believe Indo hasn't executed anyone for a decade or so but the new regime is very different from the previous ones.

I couldn't agree more that drugs are a scourge on society and these 2 blokes did the wrong thing but I hate to see rehabilated people shot!!! Now they help people!!

There are many people trying to save these 2 and now I am just another 1 of them. I have just said to my wife that if these executions go ahead we will be boycotting Indoneasia for as long as we live and if 1000's of other Aussies also committed to this then Indo might think again ( Aussies are a major tourism $ for Indoneasia)

My thoughts were that a Twitter account with many followers might get some traction but sadly I don't have a Twitter account and you folks are my biggest online audience...... If any one agrees with my sentiments and can help then please do.

Once they are shot it's too late!!

Thanks for the indulgence..... Please feel free to discuss the more general feeling around these scenarios if it's allowed?

Ben

WOW, a case with so many conflicting aspects, really difficult. Has the Australian federal goverment tried to reach an international agreement about life imprisonment in Australia for those two convicts?

Sorry Ben - but saying this topic is not meant to be political does not make it so. However, instead of deleting it, I will just close it - thus assuring it will stay.

Thanks to those of you who help make this a fun and friendly forum.
