This is in the ginger clan, and it has heavenly fragrance born on flowers that are hanging overhead usually from 8 to 10 feet hanging down. I really like the overall plant but my goodness this plant can spread, it spreads through rhizomes and also the spent flowers when they hit the ground can root and animals move them around and I’ve got it in places I did not plant and I love it, but be careful.

Couple other nearby Ginger’s thrown in…

Interesting I never give mine any supplemental water and they go through extended dry spells, and hang in there.

Could be my sandy soil, they just never look good brown leaf edges and always wanting attention, I gave up on them. Perhaps my bore water they don’t like?

Brad I like the leaf form on this spiral ginger, it really looks nice on your specimen. I got a start of it at one of our local Palm Society meetings and have been growing it for at least a couple of years. Mine doesn't look as stunning as yours or the member I got it from. I tend to think I should be giving it a little more water in my climate. I have sandy fast draining soil which probably means it dries out a bit between drinks.

I have another spiral I like even better, but I’ve noticed both of them are a lot more sensitive than some of the other gingers I’ve got.

First picture is the spiral I really like, but I don’t have one of it in flower. I’ve got the name somewhere. It has the word berries in the title. Here are some other random ginger photos, the white torch and red torture both about 14 feet tall..
