Getting into the anthuriums

Featured Replies

I missed the boat when it come to collecting anthuriums, only really starting to collect them over the last five years.

In my quest to start the collection I killed many varieties, learning as I went along and even then still made mistakes with them.

The good old warocqueenum was the holy grail of anthuriums for me, until I gave up killing them. I have found the hybrids are a lot tougher, yes going against my views on hybrids in horticulture.

And the biggest surprise was anthurium vietchii being so easy and cool tolerant despite all the hype about it being super sensitive to everything. I was growing them in a hothouse originally but that was my biggest mistake, after talking with one of Australias biggest anthurium growers he suggested I get them out of the hothouse and into the greenhouse. So with good drainage and not a lot of water along with leaving them alone in the greenhouse I have finally worked them out I think.
