Dear all,

I still can't believe it: our Jens aka Pal Meir passed away today in the hospital. Many of you will still remember his expertise on Lytos; he achieved incredible things, especially with itapebiiensis.

We used to meet once a month for coffee; it was a sacred ritual. Until he no longer had the courage to get into the car. Then everything happened very quickly.

I am so incredibly sad; I will miss him terribly.

Oh no.... His love for the Lytos is a huge part of what kept me interested in palms. An absolute legend. I learned so much despite having so little interaction with him. I'm really sorry to hear this. His passion and his knowledge will be missed dearly.

May he rest in peace and grow a great garden in heaven.

Have met his nephew and wife who are in Bochum in his apartment right now ... his last words were for his Lytos and me ...
And now? Have loaded 3 larger and one really large L. weddelianum + 2 L. itapebiense (one mid-sized, 1 seedling) and a L. hoehnei into my car ... this was the last promise I gave him; to take care on his "babies", as long as I am alive.

Heaven was crying on my way back, much of rain came down ...  😪

That is truly very sad.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the entire family.

I have read many of his reports. Another great master has ascended to watch over us from above and inspire us that anything is possible with knowledge, patience, and love for plants and exotic species.

He, too, inspired me deeply—and Sabine as well.

Warm regards from Lake Constance

Tom and Sabine
