Who's growing Garcinia's? (Fruit Trees)

Featured Replies

I had a big "achacha", Garcinia humilis, but I neglected it and it died..

Anyway I bought another and it is growing fast.  I might get a couple more.

I also have "African mangosteen" ("Imbe"), Garcinia livingstonei, You need both a male and a female.  The female tend to have more rounded leaves, and the female, more pointy.

My "Lemon Drop" mangosteen died, but I will get a couple more.

And I have a badly neglected "White mangosteen." It is supposed to be a more robust purple mangosteen. I don't really know what it is.  the leaves are much longer than typical mangosteens, and it is truly much hardier.  I have had it for several years now.  It was growing okay but some skunks chewed on it and it is slowly coming back.  I am going to get a couple more regular purple mangosteens.  They will grow here, but they can be so slow..

Anybody else growing Garcinia's?  I will post some pictures.  I just got little starter plants, so my trees are only a couple of feet tall

My list includes
madruno
mangostana
warrenii
xanthochymus

However, probably madruno was incorrectly labelled when bought. Looks more like livistonei.

i have luc's, achacha, xanthochymus, intermedia and pacuri.  why is your achacha growing fast??  please share everything you can about its conditions and your care... how much sun/shade, water, fertilizer and so on.

Achacha's (Garcinia humilis) don't seem to be that fussy for me.  But like most tropicals they seem to like a lot of water.  I am growing mine in a pot with a soil mixture I made from equal parts of peat moss, perlite, and coco husks -- and fertilized with Nutricote.  I have mine shaded under other plants right now.  I will take some pictures tomorrow.

My son is pushing me to get back to work on the garden so I will probably plant them in the ground soon.  I plan on putting fencing around the plants to keep animals from chewing on them until they get some size and covering with shade cloth.

i have 3 garcinias. I have an in ground Luc’s garcinia that does very well, it gives me 2 growth flushes during the warm season. It still hasn’t flowered yet and it is planted in like 60% shade.

I have a potted garcinia hombroniana that gives me 1 growth flush during the warm season

I also got a potted seedling garcinia Brasiliensis in spring and it has never flushed so far.
