RESERVATION INFORMATION FOR OUR PSSC BANQUET

For the first time since 2016 Jeffry and Christine Brusseau will be hosting a PSSC event at their 2 acre property in Vista, northern San Diego County, Saturday, October 18, 2025.

Attendance at the banquet, per the Host's request, is for PSSC members only. Cost of the banquet is $69 per person, which will include parking. Because parking near the Brusseau's house is extremely limited, additional parking at a nearby location is provided, along with a shuttle service, which is included in the price. Shuttle begins at 10:00 a.m. This will be a catered banquet, with Tacos, Cheese Enchiladas and beans and rice.

Please go to the PSSC's website and sign up. Palm Society of Southern California - Home Page

THE GARDEN: Go inside the gate in the front, and enter another world, full of all the palms you ever wanted, plus some you might not have ever imagined. Large-to-giant Caryotas, Howeas, Chrysalidocarpus (Dypsis!), Archontophoenix, Bismarckia, Jubaea, Parajubaea, Raveneas, Howeas, Roystoneas and Rhopolistylus tower overhead feathering the blue sky, Paths are edged with blazing bromeliads; here and there, you see jewel-box-like beds of them. Spiky green, gray and blue EncephalartosPritchardias flocked with fuzzy tomentum. A scene as exuberant as the heavens on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, but also comfortably orderly, blazing with shape and color.

The garden reflects Mr. Brusseau's endless quest for the best. Guihaia argyrata with trunks. Ravenea xerophila that's trunking, twenty five feet tall overall. A Psuedophoenix sargentii that's flowering. A Raphia farinifera showing promise of reaching its soaring full size. (Remember that picture of the 65-foot tall leaves in that old book?) A Copernicia baileyana with three feet of trunk (these are slow even in the tropics). A large Attalea dubia. A big, fat, trunking Jubaea with at least 12 feet of vertical trunk. A big Jubaeopsis caffra. Plus a mouthwatering collection of palms from New Caledonia, Madagascar, Reunion, and the rest of the palmy world.

As noted, this is PSSC members-only; if you have questions about your PSSC membership, contact Mark Riedler, the PSSC membership chair at markriedler@gmail.com. Or, send a PM to @DoomsDave

There will be an auction. Donors have a choice of donating 100% of the proceeds to the PSSC (we appreciate that!) or 50% (we appreciate that, too!) The focus is on rare palms, in 1 to 5 gallon containers, though larger ones will be accepted. Also good are nice palm-themed objects d'art, and other exotic plants, including but not limited to, bromeliads, fancy Ficus, etc. We accept credit cards, checks, and good old cash, though, due to expenses relating to credit card transactions, we greatly appreciate cash and checks, if possible.
