The humble blueberry, packed full of antioxidants a great super food to eat. A new block got planted today at work only 4000 of them to start with, with another 17 thousand to go in next month and in September. It’s a fun farm to work on that kinda makes my economy to scale go out the window when it comes to growing palms at home, I look at how many palms I have and think oh that’s only a small batch I have in comparison to where I work! The labour involved in setting up is incredible the amount of hours that go into it, not to mention the cost per block to develop. At $6 Aus dollars a plant and 4000 in this block I would like to doing the cuttings that’s for sure. These plants have a PBR on them aka plant breeder rights, you cannot sell or reproduce them in any way shape or form. If you do it’s a rather hefty bill and destruction of all the plants sold or planted at your expense. It’s a big dollar industry and they will see you in court for sure, a few growers in the area have been caught doing such a thing and word goes around quite fast as to who it was and the consequences. And you thought the palm mafia gang was ruthless, these guys will make it a rather interesting exspensive experience if you muck with there plants, and rightly so a plant breeder spends years in developing such plants and deserves the royalties of such hard work!

Hedge funds and industry leaders recognize where we are obviously headed.   The population curve of humans currently resembles that of locust population cycles.   They know that in the distant future, total control of the food supply is where the money and power will be.   Preventing individuals and small operations from growing food independently and efficiently is part of their long game.   Patenting living organism lines, developing sterile plant lines where they control the seed source, buying up large farming operations, and heavy lobbying for favorable laws is part of the process.  In time, over generations, it will pay off big, as the world population continues to double at faster and faster rates.

The smartest and most well positioned people in the world are looking way ahead, and jockeying for future control and individual prosperity.

On a lighter note though…. Nice looking operation there!  Very clean and interesting set up.

Technology has come to farming now it’s the way of the future. As you say large corporations and certain companies have targeted the food industry for a few reasons obviously monetary reasons and control of the masses through food. It’s gotten that way now only the big farmers survive in business now. They have consumed the small growers by taking there profits by mass production. Another control form is the food chain stores taking control of what they give the farmer so they can make more money, there in conjunction with the fruit agents who buy from the growers, it’s a cycle of life that the consumer is stuck in. Years ago the old hippies (I was one myself and still hold those beliefs and values) told us how it was going to pan out nobody wanted to listen to them how right they where. We only have one planet and we are consuming at an alarming rate of self destruction not in gloomy way to speak but it’s so sad what we are doing.
What you have written are words of a very intelligent person who is in tune with what’s happening to our planet if more people were as such as yourself we might stand a chance I like your values in life well spoken.
And yes they certainly have a good grow show. I have been working there for 21 years it’s a good job farming feeding the planet, but I will say blueberries alone are not going to feed  the planet, I do wish they grow vegetables as well. I will stick with growing my palms as part of of a conversation effort for the planet doing my bit in a small way!

I have a hard time with patenting and owning the reproduction rights to generations of living organisms and their descendants.  We already have the technology to manipulate human genes and code entire organisms, so how long til you or I find out we were actually created by a company and are the intellectual property of some corporate hedge fund?

Perhaps we are all already on a giant spherical farm, and are actually the intellectual property of an advanced alien-race farming conglomerate.   Lol!

This reminds me of the pink pineapple where they cut the tops off of them to make sure nobody else can grow them.

That’s a wild scale you’re working with—4,000 blueberries and counting! Really puts home growing into perspective. And yeah, PBR laws are no joke. Totally fair though, breeders put in years of work and investment, so it makes sense they protect it. Still, sounds like a great place to work, even if the setup is intense. Props to you for being part of it!

Just a couple of plants, the crazy part is we have another 3 farms with raspberries and blackberries and macadamias 200 acres all up of farming! I do the irrigation and it’s a huge setup just the irrigation alone and knowing where all the pipes in the ground are is essential for development. With the hothouses you get a 12 hour window to fix a problem if something is wrong. Or the plants will suffer from heat stress or they will start to die. It takes a lot of thinking irrigation we do more than just turn on taps!

Healthcare, water, food, housing - it's incredibly expensive to just stay alive now.

Mel Brooks predicted that in Spaceballs: The Movie. Such a classic. Glad they're finally making a sequel. Hope the world is still around in 2 years when it's supposed to come out.
