2025_01 - Arenga engleri, Caryota obtusa, Copernicia alba and Acoelorraphe wrightii after freezing temperatures

First post here!

Here are these 4 species after a low of -4.9°C (23.2F) with no protection.

Only Caryota has a Tipuana canopy (whose leaves fried but did just fine except for that).

I really thought all of them would fry at those temps but did pretty well after all.

Any thoughts on this?

I'm about to try some 1-year-old Ravenea rivularis seedlings that I will keep in pots right next to my house under a fleece until they grow to see how they do.

Low temps here can get that cold but this last winter was the coldest ever, where we had two consecutive nights getting down to 23.2F and 24F. Max temperatures those days were over 54F which I guess helped.

On the other side, Summers are hot and dry, getting as hot as 113F.
