South of Flagstaff, east of Sedona, AZ. Elevation was around 6,500 ft. Truly a remarkable state with tons of diversity in the desert plant category.  I definitely need to explore this state more!

Another winner James :greenthumb:..  Great plants / nice views of some nearby landscapes i've yet to start exploring..

Up there, most likely Echinocereus sp. would be one of the red flowered, local forms within Section Triglochidiati  ..Can't remember which specific sp. occurs in that particular area but they're tough as nails.  Red flowered one i have planted down here is ..someone.. within this group of Echinoceri.

Both E. engelmannii var. fasciculatus,  and E. bonkerae  ( Has really short spines ) can also be found in the same area. Both get the giant pink to purple-ish red flowers on em'.

* Unknown " bush " = Nolina microcarpa  ..Very common above roughly 3Kft across most of the state..

Pictured Prickly Pear looks like O. chloroctica  to me but,  O. engelmannii and phaeacantha also grow up that way too..

Aside from another trip up there,  keep an eye on the weather here this summer..  Wet?, < hopefully >   highly suggest sniffing around Southern and / or S. Eastern AZ ( Sky Islands hot spots near the border like  Madera Canyon and the Santa Ritas, Sierra Vista area and the Huachucas,  Chiricahuas  ..Catalinas / Rincons closer Tucson. )

As you've seen me point out in past threads, completely different landscapes compared to the Northern part of the state.

Planning on getting back down there myself  ..If this years' monsoon season is good.

On average,  ..individuals can vary...  A. p. var. couseii  runs about even, size -wise with the others ..Specimens i've seen at least..  ..exception would be var. truncata, which is often the smallest - sized of the 5 varieties of the species..  That said, it isn't tiny either.
