Hey there, I noticed a white fleshy bump under 1 of the side scales of my sago palms. I understand that Sagos can grow side pups but only when they are mature. My plant is a 6.5 gallon so it's pretty young.

If it is a "pup"... Can I simply cut it out? I prefer a single trunk Sago.

Yes, it’s for sure a pup and you can surely cut it off with a sharp blade. If you wait a little bit until it gets bigger, it may be easier to cut. I always throw some sulfur dust liberally on raw cuttings. Good luck.

it's just important sometimes to wait before you cut something, as Billeb said. also, it's much easier to cut a young one, literally take it away from the mother when it's bigger.

i was recently able to remove two of our cycas revoluta, including the root, using only gloves, but the young ones were much bigger. it was very easy.

Thanks all! I just pulled on it and it came out like a garlic clover. I'll look to put sulfur dust to prevent wound issues. But sulfur dust is just a fungicide, so maybe I can just spray copper fungicide instead of? I do have it under shade to prevent afternoon sun and it's shielded from rain in the meantime.

@palmaddict83 copper fungicide is good too.  I generally keep sulfur around because it's convenient in a powder form and doesn't ever expire.  :D
