Looking for Sabal Palmetto seeds that are bug-free.

Ordered these online and received not only damaged seeds, but also live weevils in the package.

Looking for someone reputable who can get me bug-free, grub-free, and egg-free Sabal Palmetto (or similar variants) seeds.

Thank you!

If you are in Atlanta, GA try visiting the downtown area.  I've seen a few blooming there.

Borers come with Sabal seeds, even while seeds are ripe still on the tree. Just soak a few days to kill them. Most will sprout.

I'd like to know as well.  I lived in Atlanta back in the late 80's and there weren't any palms around back then.  Here in Texas the palmettos and mexicanas are currently flowering and won't have mature fruits until August or September.  I currently have immature fruits on my Sabal Louisiana that should ripen up in 6 weeks or so.

The Atlanta area does have some palm trees, but not the downtown and not in public spaces, apart from the Piedmont Park having one location with Windmill palms.

Sabal Palmetto would grow just fine here, but nobody plants it around here - maybe because folk aren't aware of its hardiness?

This is true, but that's not a place where I can go & collect seeds...

I thought you meant you saw Sabal Palmetto downtown Atlanta, planted along the streets somewhere. That would be super cool.

They were planted outside the gardens too.  Seeds were sprouting like weeds outside area restaurants near the gardens.

That might be gone sadly. I went to the Botanical Gardens in Atlanta a month ago and saw no palm trees up until we were literally at the gate... disappointing.

Are you banished from... /  ..Will be zapped by 200,000 volts of electricity  if you ever enter?

If not, ..then no harm in collecting a few seeds off the ground below any palmetto(s) there while visiting. Don't know a single person who hasn't walked out of a garden visited w/ out a few seeds of something in their pocket from time to time.

Could  always make a weekend trip to somewhere east or south of ATL where they grow to collect some seeds too.

Tybee Island is a great place to find native GA Sabal palmetto seed.  The population has the highest average leaflet count I have ever seen.  I gathered seed from one with 146 leaflets per leaf.  I grew them to three gallon size and sold out quickly. I kept one and here it is years later.

I have been to the botanical gardens and I have never seen seeds just laying around under the palmettos. From my experience, the garden is always very well maintained and the staff makes sure there aren't any seeds you can just pick up.
