Both look like some type of Ginger...  Exactly which type of Ginger?  IE: Hedychium?,  Alpinia?, or a Zingiber?

Tough to say until it gets larger / the dormant tuber section generates new growth..

Leaves on the " Live " plant kind of looks like a Hedychium, but, again ..needs to put on more growth to be more sure.

Either way, these will need more space than a shallow planting box.. ( Many Hedychium and Alpinia  can get 4+ft tall, for instance )

thank you very much Nathan for your explinations and informations.

okay, would you move them both to an environment with more space or wait until they have grown more, including the bulb, and it is warmer than 50 degrees at night?

Both.   As long ad you keep them moist while they settle in after moving, they should do fine / will continue growing  ..or start growing, ....in the case of the Tuber piece.

Won't be a rocket grower when nights are under 50F, ..but they'll still grow regardless..
