So I got a filamentosa a few months ago from the reduced rack at lowe’s, thinking I had gotten a great find. I split up the plant and I did notice they kinda lacked roots, maybe root rot from being in pot for so long. But anyway, my little yuccas have been planted for some months and I have to say these things are slowwwww. Each plant has given like 1 new leaf in this entire time.

My question is, are they normally this slow, or is this the fault of their poor state when purchased. And basically when can I expect to see more progress.

Few roots = plants will have to start adding them before the plant pushes top growth.. Hard to do both at the same time..

Keep em happy, and they'll catch up  ..Once they get a root system going.   Patience... :greenthumb:

It was their poor condition.  I bought two last year, one is huge the other struggled and looked like the above ground portion was going to die.  Two weeks ago the sickly one started throwing full sized leaves and is on the mend.  To be honest they are almost impossible to kill so I never was worried.  Just give it some time.

I guess I just need to forget about them for a while 😅. Also have one potted, considered it to be an emergency backup in case I lost the ones in ground, but it’s been equally stagnant. Another question too, these don’t necessarily need full day sun right?

Full sun is best. If it’s too much shade they get skinny leaves.

Haven’t posted an update in a while. This is the main plant now. With the blazing heat it started to push growth rather quickly, and i’m excited to see the variegation. The other offsets from this plant are also doing alright. They’re smaller and growing slower but at least they’re doing something.

You realize that these are non-trunking, right? Also, keep a lookout for spider mites.

Yeah i’m aware. Known that ever since I got it. My original concerns were regarding the fact that no noticeable leaf growth was occurring. And I haven’t really noticed spider mites outside for a while. Its in a very sunny dry spot too.

Nice thing is that there are a couple of variegated ones available from nurseries.

Yeah. I got mine from the reduced rack at lowe’s. It wasn’t very obviously variegated and actually appeared to be pure green-gray with very skinny leaves, but maybe that was because of poor lighting and overwatering it was getting. Now that it’s in sun, new leaves show very pronounced “medio picta” type yellow stripes. Although I am not quite sure if the coloring lasts or it’s more of a temporary thing for young leaves.

Anyway, I forgot what variety this was but it was something I hadn’t heard of. I know the main variegated variety is color guard and those look very nice especially when large. But I’m pretty satisfied with my plant either way, in the end I’m really in it for the flowers.

Ok so wow 2 weeks later and the growth has actually been quite substantial.

Very nice variegation too, it’s really showing how happy it is.

Also, it’s giving its first offshoot!!

I’ll probably post pictures of the other divisions soon too.
