Hi all! I just bought 3 new banana plants (red leaf, Musa Basjoo, and Dwarf Cavendish). This is what I noticed. Some dark spots, some black around the trunk, etc. Is this fungus, damage, stress? I just got them last week. Help!

Nothing wrong here.  Plants never look perfect, especially bananas.

@Chester B has it covered, nothing wrong with that one. Bananas like to eat a lot of organic matter so mulch away.

My 2nd dwarf cavendish came in the mail yesterday. It's beautiful! I've been going back and forth in my head trying to finalize the spot where I will plant it. I have killer sun and heat in the afternoon. I understand that it can scorch in the triple digit blazes. There is a large pepper tree giving lots of shade during the day just to the side of where I plan to plant it. It's heavy shade at some points of the day. I'm thinking about pruning that tree a bit so that the sunlight is more dappled. I'm stuck trying to find the balance of heat protection and still achieving enough sun.
