Now that it’s early March, and the temperatures are starting to get warmer, I can finally document all the damage on the palms I protected that saw -5°F.

1. Needle Palm: Only thing that I saw wrong with it is the oldest frond dying off, which probably doesn’t even count as cold damage on the main plant. One of the suckers, who were a bit unprotected, had minor tip burn, and that’s it. (pic from 3-05)

2. Sago Palm: the Cycad had only been defoliated. I can’t tell if there is any other damage besides that, since the base is still fine and not mushy, and the growing point isnt rotten or anything. (pic from 3-5)

3. Sabal Louisiana: Definitely the worst out of them all! Most of the leaves had some sort of damage and browning to them, and both the spears had shrivelled up. Sadly, the Sabal spear pulled on me, meaning it was the only casualty of the winter so far. (pic taken 3-5)

4. Butia Odorata: The Butia so far only has tip damage, and most of the outer fronds died off. It seems mist of the inner ones are completely green and healthy. The spears look great, and don’t seem to have taken any damage over the winter either! This was the palm I was really hoping would make it through, and it did! Idk why I didn’t take a picture of the Butia, so I’ll post a similar pic from last month. (pic taken 2-25)
