I planted sweet viburnum near my pool for privacy. However, the amount of leaf shedding that ends up in the pool has become overwhelming. The tiny spring flowers are a pain to remove as well.

What is something that will provide good privacy with minimal leaf/flower litter. Zone 8b N. Florida. Absolute lows yearly range from 19F-27F.

My thoughts are elephant ears and mixing ice cream banana. Just mow them down in winter after the frost.

Podocarpus are pretty decent privacy screens, they don’t seem to drop too much in my experience with them. several different cultivars size wise. Some get large without hedging occasionally.

Needle palms used as hedges are pretty cool. How wide of space do you have? You could layer elephant ears in front of those. But you may be tight on space.

@hinovak That’s actually a really good idea. I have terrible allergies to Christmas trees and or cedars…so I am going to smell them at the store and wait for any reaction. I had to pay to have 2 Leland cypress cut out of my yard because any time I would get near them (within 20 feet) my skin would feel as if it were on fire.

I may transplant ice cream bananas and add elephant ears for tropical density if podocarpus doesn’t work out. I have a ton of room.

You could do podocarpus line in back, then do tight groupings of ice creams spread out like every 8-12 ft. In front of podos, and then in between the ice cream groupings, plant elephant ears in mass. Might be cool, good thing about gardening, is if you do it and it looks dumb, can always change it up
