I've been growing this plant from seed for about 15 years. Location is the state of Iowa in the US.

Today when watering, I discovered a small cone. Looks like a female. These plants are amazing. Hard to believe I could get one to cone here in the cold midwest.

Looks like a female cone. If anyone has pollen they want to share at the appropriate time, I'd be very willing to split the seeds 50/50.

I bought the seeds on this forum in 2008. Four plants out of the 10 seeds have survived to about this size. This is the first cone, though.

Congrats! An awesome surprise.

I also had a container cycad recently cone out of nowhere. It is a weird and exciting experience when you are not expecting it, more so when you are now able to identify the plant.

Wanted to bump this. The cone will be opening shortly. If anybody has S. eriopus pollen to share, I'd be happy to split the resultant seeds.

Thanks.
