I’ve had  these Dioon edule for 23 years in there containers. After my old greenhouse got smashed by a tree I just put them under the gum trees leaving them to be for many years. Then i decided to move them back into the new greenhouse. They have been through many adverse conditions that are possible and still survived years of abuse. But there an old favourite plant of mine that have seen a lot over the years. Originally from rosebud farm many years ago. Now iam renovating the garden it# good to have some spare plants lying around to use. You don’t see many for sale in my area a true collector species well worth growing.

They look nice! Here's hoping you get some good growth on them in the ground.

I have other ones in the ground and out of about ten only one has grown decent. Yet the ones in the containers are a lot better looking. I might try planting a few  in the shade and see what happens to them instead of hot sunny  positions.

I was just curious, the growth is a little faster for me, about 11/2 flushes a year, but I am only about 400 miles from the species native range. It is a great cycad.

Your in zone 8a they must be pretty cold tolerant than. 400 miles as the crow flies is pretty close range to habitat your lucky to have them so close.

Dioon edule is very hardy, my plants are still in containers, but they experience the teens under tree or roof canopy.

My experience with them they tolerate such dry conditions in containers. The ones I have are left over from my old nursery outstandingly tough species.
