I have a banana in the ground with I think 5 suckers. I only want a few and I want this one  to go because it is already very close to the other larger sucker. How do I get rid of it without harming the plant or sucker next to it? Do I just snip it and it won’t come back? It’s only a small sprout image.thumb.jpg.1dadac01c4164ce185295dd657c45a82.jpg

On my farm bananas are invasive and I must use a pickax on bigger pups if I want to remove the entire clump.

But perhaps just pruning off unwanted parts persistently would work for you?

I can only imagine Cindy I have worked in the banana industry and we used something like a medieval axe to split up the corm what a job that was.

If it's small, cut it off with garden shears or clippers.  Bigger ones I use a sharp steel shovel.  If you avoid cutting the center "bulb" of the existing culm the bigger plant will keep growing.  You'll get the hang of how much to cut to keep it from regrowing vs damaging the main culm too much.  They can take a good amount of abuse and still regrow...
