I hope this post is allowed here, I've not had success trying to find an answer to this online.

For context, I've had my dracaena marginata (Nigel) for 10 years,  and never considered pruning him - I'm not green-fingered, but managed to keep him seemingly healthy. He reached the ceiling in my house and I thought I was going to have to let him go as I couldn't house him any more. In a moment of madness in late December in the UK (i.e. cold winter), I started cutting the canes before it occurred to me that pruning could be an option. In hindsight, it was a lazy and reckless move - I should have done some research before taking action.

It's been over 2 months now, and I think I'm finally starting to see some signs of life from the 3 canes that I trimmed back. There are new bumps towards the top which I think is new growth. However, the tops of the canes are starting to shrivel and some green mould has appeared on top.

I can't find a source to tell me how to deal with this. Should I be applying something to the affected tips? Should I trim them below the mould/shrivelling? Something else?

If this post is allowed here, please could someone help me care for my little dude? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think it will be ok and will continue to brown the top.  Two things to watch out for next time, make your cuts at a 45 degree and second only cut back in early spring.  Cutting in fall or winter will only delay the new growth from coming back.  I think you dont need to do anything more.  Maybe light house plant fertilizer.
