It’s funny I have a jungle rainforest garden yet i have some areas that are desert like places in certain spots so a golden barrel cactus will get planted in the succulent area.

Good choice of hand pruner (Felco) for scale. That's about as good looking as this species (Kroenleinia grusonii) gets. Be sure to give it some shade until it's acclimated for at least it's first year. This species will sunburn faster than most other barrel cactus when they're young. Try to avoid the unnatural (and too commonly employed) look of grouping several together. They look, and do the best when grown alone.

Thanks Tom I shall plant it by itself and sun harden it off iam more of a palm nut than cactus grower and as for fellco only the best hand pruning equipment around especially the rolling handle iam an old orchard pruner from way back with thousands of trees passing through the felcos then moving onto pneumatic secateurs now days there all electric power I find there to slow give me the pneumatic secateurs anyday the trick with pruning thousands of trees is at the end of the day you have all ten fingers left to count on cheers

Excellent !!! I have a huge one that has about outgrown its 24 inch box . Need to get it in the ground still trying to figure out were . Came from my great aunt when she passed away. Another good choice which I find is prettier than the golden is echinocactus platyacanthus . Has some excellent purple stripes when young . And gets extra large 🤙
