I will be attempting germination of a few species of Cycas for the first time this summer. I've done my research on the basics of it, but am a bit confused regarding seed viability of this plant group. I've come across two different types of info: first that Cycas seed viability is short and they should be planted as soon as possible after harvest. And second, that they have a long maturing period and that when the harvest time is unknown one should wait for a while (a couple of months or so) before sowing the seed to be sure not to plant them too early.

Probably both perspectives are right under the right context?

I will try germinating these 3 species:
Cycas debaoensis
Cycas clivicola ssp lutea
Cycas sp. Silver (Thai Silver Sago; an as-yet undescribed species discovered in western Thailand)

I have not collected the seeds myself. Regarding these species, can anybody advise on the viability window they have?
