Filtered Shade, here anyway..  Yes, they will clump ..slowly though.  Water just a tad more than cacti  ...just enough water to keep em' going..  less water in winter.

Thinking these are relatively cold tolerant, like regular ol' Mother in Law's Tongue / Snake plant.

Looking around a bit, yours could be S. hyacinthoides,  but there are several other wide-leaved sps  ( kirkii var pulchra, superba, masoniana,  etc.... )

The common one around here is a Masoniana nicknamed "Whale Tail."  It's definitely a clumper but does take a while to make a huge cluster.  I had some out in a pot at about 27-29F and were okay but under high Queen palm canopy.  They are ok here with AM sun or filtered sun, but I've never seen them in full sun.  I do have another nicknamed "Quicksilver" that seems totally fine with full sun.  They do ok here in enormous amounts of rain, and were also ok in my nursery area with daily sprinkling all year.

I got a Sansieviera masoniana about 10 years ago. It's never clumped.  Being outside the main garden it never gets watered during the dry season. Planted it on a slope and it's trailed down slowly, probably looking for a better place. It's in partly filtered sun. But during the year as the sun moves across from the north to the south there's some periods of direct middle of day sun. It still seems to get by.

One they have in the botanical gardens looks better, is taller and is clumping. With their irrigation system it has water all year.
