I came across this flower sporting an interesting appendage.  I don't think I have ever noticed one on any of the many hibiscus plants I have grown over the years.  Anyone else ever encounter anything like this on a Hibiscus?

Seen this occasionally on some cultivars..  Not 100% sure what causes it, but thinking it is some sort of random mutation..

You have a "petaloid" - something random that happens with hibiscus on occasion.

Here are some lovely petaloids on a recent "Namaste" hibiscus of mine...

For comparison, here is the official photo of "Namaste" in the Hibiscus Cultivar registry...

The unpredicability of the blooms is one thing I love about Hibiscus... so many surprises. In my mind, palms and other slow-growing plants in the yard are my visual meal... with smaller treats like hibiscus blooms being the candy. Gives me a reason to get up in the morning and go check out the yard.
