Here in south Orange County, I usually don't get a good crop of Longan. The problem I have is that its a race between the ripening process and the cool weather that arrives in October.  Most years the cool weather wins and the fruit fails to ripen properly. However, this year we had a warm, rather humid summer and the fruit ripened early (end of September). The tree is a bout 25 years old and this is the first time we have enjoyed plump, juicy Longan. What a treat!

:greenthumb:  That's a nice looking tree..  Did not realize they ripened toward the end of summer/ early Fall.  For some reason, always thought fruit ripened mid- summer..   You ever try to germinate seed off your tree?

Spent years in Taiwan and they did ripen in summer there, but here in CA, our Spring is usually cool and the tropical fruit trees get a late start and a late harvest. I imagine in FL, they ripen in the summer. The tree is a grafted Kohala cultivar. Seedlings would take forever to fruit and just might be almost all seed and little pulp.

I have the same issue with my Rambutan tree 🥴

What other tropical fruit trees are you growing?

The Lychee Tree produces a smaller crop on the same size tree every summer usually early August. Cherimoya fruits are almost ready to start picking. Hand pollination improves the number and shape of the fruit, but the common black Argentine ants seem to be a good pollinator as well. Atemoya. Thirteen Avocado cultivars (not all fruiting size.  Hawaiian Apple. Gros Michel, Gran Nain and Goldfinger banana.  Mountain Apple (Syzygium malaccense) . Some Guava trees.

How about yourself?

There is a longan tree in disneyland. I believe I saw it in the rhino scene while on jungle cruise.

Nice!  You got to eat them fast.  I have about 2 dozens on my little tree. 😁

Is your mountain apple sweet?  I have cherimoya, atemoya, white sapote, rose apple, surinam cherry, star cherry, araza, lemon guava, cherry guava (?), achacha, gamboge, jackfruit, starfruit, longan, jamaican cherry, mango, passion fruit ruby glow and a bunch of seedlings such as lemon drop mangosteen and soursop.

Pretty high on my wish list is the kwai muk.
