Oakland Palmetum clean-up day August 13th

Featured Replies

Members of the Northern California Palm Society, as well as anyone else interested, are invited to participate in a palm garden clean-up day this coming Saturday, August 13th from 9 a.m. to noon.

For those not familiar with the Oakland Palmetum, it is located at 666 Bellevue Ave within the Gardens at Lake Merritt https://gardensatlakemerritt.org/gardens-map/

Parking is free along Bellevue Avenue if you tell the parking attendant at the entrance that you are volunteering in the gardens.

We will be doing general garden work, including raking leaves off of pathways, weeding, watering, removing fallen palm leaves, and trimming off dead palm leaves. Please bring your own garden gloves, weed pulling tools, and garden shears if you have. There are a limited amount of tools on site. Everyone is free to work in any part of the Palmetum they choose and someone will be available for guidance. There is no time committment, so you can work for however long you like.

A clean and safe portable restroom is available inside of the gardens for volunteers only.

Looking forward to working with a nice group of volunteers. This will be an ongoing effort every 2nd Saturday of each month.
